ALMOST HALF OF THE WORLD’S POPULATION FACES A SCARCITY OF WATER.
One of the final sentences Jesus spoke on the cross was: “I am thirsty.” John 19:28: NIV
Two thousand years later nearly half of the people worldwide can say the same phrase, as they face a water shortage crisis daily.
Water is at the heart of social and economic development and is critical in sustaining good health. It plays a vital role in agriculture, generating electricity and in maintaining personal hygiene and community sanitation. Yet theavailability of this liquid natural resource is dwindling at an alarming rate.
In addressing water security, The World Bank states that it ranks at the top of all global risks. Estimates speak of a grim forecast: if things remain status quo, there will be a 40 percent shortfall in the year 2030 between supply and demand. Statistics reveal that70 percent of the world’s available water is used for agriculture. And if the global population indeed touches 9 billion by 2050, crops will require 15 percent more water. Furthermore, reservoirs of underground water are rapidly being depleted.
Hardest Hit Regions
Those who live in Northern Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, Western Asia, and Southern Asia are in the danger zone. The heart-wrenching numbers below paint a dark picture:
- 2.4 billion lack adequate access to acceptable sanitation
- 1 billion publicly defecate
- 663 million live without safe drinking water
- 675,000 deaths due to these inadequacies
- Some countries lose up to 7 percent of their GDP annually
- 1.3 billion live without water-generated electricity
Areas of Concentration
- ICARE plans to take an active part in promotingwater security and helping developing areas of the globe have access to safe drinking water.
- We aim to provide funds to be invested in infrastructure projects for the impoverished, as well as to develop innovate water purification systems.
- Additional focus shall be put on using sanitation facilities and how to properly dispose of waste.
- Be an asset in helping improve crop irrigation by improving water management and subsequently, alleviate hunger.
Please prayerfully consider how you can add your resources to partner with us as we heed the words of our Lord:
